Recently, I came across a Texas advocacy program called the Mental Health Managed Counsel program, otherwise known as the MHMC program. It is a program implemented by Collin County in order to help keep individuals with mental illnesses out of the criminal justice system and to ensure that they receive proper treatment and care. That being said, the program is made to reduce the percent chance of re-arrest of those with mental illnesses. I learned that the MHMC program provides solutions to keep mentally ill defendants out of the criminal justice system in order to improve the quality of life and representation of defendants with mental illnesses. I find this subject fascinating and wrote an in depth research assessment on the matter as a result. While I was doing research though, I came across a few questions regarding how it works and how the program came to be. Fortunately, I have an interview with the program coordinator on Monday in which I can learn more about this program.
I encourage reading about it. To learn more about the Mental Health Managed Counsel program, click here.
