During Thanksgiving Break, I was had a research interview with a professional who did crime mapping yearly. As a result, I was able to learn about the process and the finished result. I learned about collecting data, plotting, and software. This was helpful because I plan on doing crime mapping for my original work project.
For those of you who don't know, Original work is a mandatory ISM project where a student answers a question they have by conducting original research such as experimentation and surveying. Basically, students aren't allowed to simply read articles and books on the topic till they find the answer. Instead, they must create data to find the answer themselves. This year, I don't want to do a survey because I have realized how unreliable surveys can be (Thanks AP Statistics!). By doing crime mapping, I am doing something unique and interesting. I will elaborate more on my project when my plans are solidified.
