Yesterday, April 1st, our teacher posted the list of individuals accepted for next year's Independent Study and Mentorship Program. Last week, interviews were being conducted every day. Juniors and Sophomores alike were buzzing with nervousness or with confidence in anticipation of their interview. ISM is a class that can be beneficial to all because it helps students strive in learning about their chosen field. This week, the list was being revised and finalized. Finally, Friday came and the list was posted up during last period (my class period in ISM).
When Coach got back, we all just sat in silence and looked at each other. It was the calm before the storm. Suprisingly, every year, Coach has to prepare for the apocalyptic wave of angry parent phone calls and emails, angry students, and crying students. So, while we waited for school to end, and everyone to go rushing to look at the list, we were also waiting for the flood of angry kids who hadn't made it in.
Word of advice: For all future and current individuals who have applied to ISM and weren't accepted, there is a reason for everything. Coach is always a fair and thorough individual and never rejects students for trivial or nonexistent reasons. While you may be angry at first, expressing that rage to the ISM teacher won't change much. I know its hard I've been rejected from programs such as NJHS multiple times, but its best to attempt to be gracious. Furthermore, it's better if you come to terms with it and talk to the teacher about why. Undoubtedly, they'll be able to tell you why. With that advice, you can improve yourself to be even better.
And let's be honest, if your truly very motivated, passionate and driven, you can achieve anything you want on your own.
