This week was quite an eventful and stressful week for me. Not only did I have my ISM video, Evidence of Learning 4, Original Work and Product Proposal due, but I also had to get fingerprinted. A few of the requirements to shadow my mentor at the hospital he is employed at are getting a background check and fingerprinting completed.

On Tuesday, I headed to a local learning center where they fingerprint and conduct background checks. Honestly, it was a interesting and new experience. Many frequent travelers, like me, have had their fingerprints scanned before, but this is quite different. To elaborate, in airports, the TSA usually only take quick scan of all your fingerprints. However, at the learning center, they did more than just that. After getting a collective scan of your fingerprints (your thumb solitarily, and your other four fingers together), they collect each finerprint individually. Additionally, they 'roll' your prints which allows them to get more details and patterns from your fingers.

Believe it or not, fingerprinting is an actual science and is truly interesting. In fact, I studied fingerprints in a law enforcement class and I recommend learning it to everyone. Even if you don't learn it in a formal setting, briefly look into it on your own! The forensics behind fingerprinting is fascinating. Identifying the various markers and types such as an ulnar loop or a delta. To learn more about this subject, click HERE.
