As many of you already know, I am in a program created by our school district this year that will allow me to gain experience in the medical field by training us to become Certified Nurse's Aides. Additionally we are given the opportunity to rotate through different facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes.
So far, my class had been working at a great nursing home that is in the area. We have now been at the nursing home for weeks and we have been able to observe and execute some of the skills needed to be a CNA. Our test is next month, and before we can take it, we must have 40 hours of experience in a nursing home. So far, we have been anwswering call lights and have seen ambulation, transferring from bed to wheel chair using a gait belt, range of motions, and dressing with a gown. We have also learnt beneficial things that aren't tested but are equally important.Furthermore, we have gotten the opportunity to converse with residents and give them company which undoubtedly helps with bedside manners.
Now, to the new and exciting part of my news today. This last week, my teacher handed out schedules for which deparment we will be in when we visit the accreditted Medical Center of Plano in the near future. We will be going into various departments such as women's care, surgical oncology, post anethesia care unit, the ICU, orthopedics trauma and last but not least the Emergency Room, While all the departments and floors seem interesting, I am especially thrilled to be visiting the ER. Additionally, I am happy to report that I will be reporting to the ER for four different days before heading off to the others! I can't wait to see the innerworkings of the hospital and am truly looking forward to our rotations there. Hopefully, everything will turn out well and run smoothly!
