IN the year 2015 I started the class of Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM for future references). Having completed the first two weeks, I can proudly say that I have learnt things I would never have thought I would. Some of those things seemed quite trivial at first such as the importance of using hand gestures, while other lessons were obviously pure kernels of gold. However, I have no doubt that all the knowledge I have collected in my brain in the last few weeks are significant in their own unique way and will help me in my pursuit of learning about Forensic Psychiatry.
It has only been two weeks since the ISM journey has begun, but it has begun with a running start. We haven't wasted a single minute. In class, we have been preparing for the ISM Business Symposium, which is an event where professionals of all types rub elbows and interact. One of the first lesson we’ve had in preparation was over appropriate professional attire. It was probably the most educational yet most stressful lesson I have ever had on clothing. What if I accidently wear an onyx suit jacket with ebony slacks?
At home, I have been preparing for activities that are not only related to Forensic Psychiatry, but are also extremely interesting. The highlight of my week has been about the upcoming District Competitive Mock Trial informational meeting. Last year, I was placed on the team and became a witness for competition. The grueling practices gave me a great deal of insight on court room procedures and I hope I will get the opportunity to expand on that knowledge this year as well! The informational meeting is in a few days, so I will undoubtedly be updating with more information pertaining to the meeting.
